Christmas in April

Date: April 2003

This year the ramp project is for an 82 year-old woman who recently became disabled. The house/site is in Bradford, Mass. Mark and I have visited the site and met two daughters of the woman. The ramp will be a cut back ramp, having a 90 degree return. We completed the ramp the morning of May 2nd, it looks great and the family was ecstatic! A nice article appeared in the Lawrence Eagle Tribune. You can even see our handiwork.

Thanks to all who participated!

5th Annual Bike Ride Report

Date: Sept. 29, 2001

Approximately 50 riders and supporters turned out for the ride and cookout. This was 5 times the turnout of the previous four anniversary rides and the estimated total raised is over 5 times last years ride. Many riders from our original 2000 mile ride of 1989 and 4000 mile ride of 1993 participated. Look for group pictures on our website in the near future.

A high point of the event was special guest Craig Annen who rode with his wife. At the finish he gave an emotional talk about how his involvement with out cross country ride had been a pivotal point in his life. He then sold and signed copies of his new book donating most of the proceeds to Danny's Team. Craig's book, " Crossroads and Detours" can be ordered through Barnes & Noble. Everyone received commemorative T-shirts that Marc and Kathy Mannheimer had prepared with a logo that summed up the day--"Today We Did A Good Thing." View pictures from the day!

Friends Forever

Date: October 24-25, 2001

Danny's Team and the Browne Center hosted two FF groups from Northern Ireland Oct. 24-25. Composed half and half of Catholic and Protestant teens. At a pizza dinner one group spoke of their ability to get along with each other in spite of the conflict there. They remain optimistic in spite of the present terrorism in the world.

Watching them freely mingle with a high school class of former board president, EJ Gaudet, you couldn't easily tell who was who. They filled the room with a refreshing antidote to enmity and terrorism- equality and freedom. Special thanks to the volunteer facilitators, David Shapiro Bernard, Jordana DeZeuuw, Colin Clark and Mike Kern. Thanks to Pam McPhee and EJ Gaudet for their contributions. Thanks also to Lori Richardson and Vince Litterini for waiting in the wings for a third group that was canceled due to international flight issues. Let's hope these teens do a better job with the future than some adults are doing with the present
